PerGenova Breakwater Consortium: 26th caisson installed for new Genoa Breakwater

  • Offshore installation and consolidation activities carried out under high safety standards
  • Zero tolerance for illegality and labour exploitation, supported by enhanced procedures and controls

Genoa, July 7, 2026 – The number of caissons installed for the construction of the New Genoa Breakwater has risen to 26, marking another milestone for one of the most important maritime infrastructure projects underway in Europe. The latest caisson, measuring 67 metres in length and 33 metres in height, was installed today by the PerGenova Breakwater Consortium, led by Webuild on behalf of the Port Authority of the Western Ligurian Sea.

The project’s progress is marked by simultaneous offshore installation and consolidation work, carried out with the support of integrated monitoring and control systems that enable the various construction phases to be managed under high safety standards in particularly challenging operating conditions.

The construction of the New Genoa Breakwater engages approximately 1,000 people day and night, including technicians, workers, and specialised personnel involved in one of the most significant maritime infrastructure projects underway in Europe and a strategic asset for the future of the Port of Genoa and the national logistics system.

The PerGenova Breakwater Consortium reiterates its zero-tolerance for any form of illegality and labor exploitation, implementing enhanced procedures and controls to safeguard workers’ dignity and the daily commitment of all those involved in the project. Through their professionalism and expertise, these individuals contribute every day to the tangible and visible progress achieved on the construction site.

The Consortium maintains constant oversight of verification and control systems throughout the subcontracting and procurement chains, promoting the use of listening and reporting channels available to workers and other parties involved in the project. Cooperation with the competent authorities and trade unions continues, with the aim of ensuring the highest standards of safety, labour compliance, and transparency across all construction activities.
