PerGenova Breakwater Consortium strengthens safety culture and commitment to worker well-being
- From integrated prevention to training on protocols for highly complex maritime operations: new initiatives to consolidate the protection model for the workforce engaged in building Europe’s largest maritime infrastructure project.
Vado Ligure, October 6, 2026 – Promoting a safety culture that goes beyond mere procedural compliance by placing people, well-being, and shared responsibility at the forefront. This is the commitment reaffirmed by the PerGenova Breakwater Consortium—led by Webuild—during an event marking World Day for Safety and Health at Work, underscoring its unwavering focus on protecting the workforce engaged in the construction of the new Genoa Breakwater.
Amidst operations characterized by high technical complexity in the maritime and infrastructure sectors, the Consortium has developed an integrated prevention system.
This system complements rigorous operational protocols with targeted training courses, awareness-raising initiatives, and tools designed to strengthen both individual and collective risk awareness. The event is part of the comprehensive corporate safety framework implemented daily—both in onshore areas (at the Vado Ligure prefabrication facilities and on the quays) and during challenging offshore operations.
Carlo De Simone, Deputy Commissioner of the Genoa Reconstruction Office, also attended the meeting at the Vado Ligure logistics hub, reiterating the indispensable value of workplace safety: "No deadline, no schedule, and no project—however important—is worth a human life. Anyone who halts work to protect a colleague is not slowing down the site; they are making it stronger".
